In our search for the most beautiful flags of the world we considered: design, symbolism, and iconic status. While this list is subjective we hope it shows that every country's flag has inherent beauty.
Each flag is shown next to its World Notebook interpretation.
Saint Lucia - North America
The flag of the island nation of Saint Lucia is a bright symbol of its heritage and geography. The calming but vibrant blue represents the sky and ocean. The center triangles represent the Pitons, which are two volcanic cones that dramatically rise above the sea. The black and white stripes represent harmony among the residents and the the bright yellow represents the famous sunshine of the Caribbean. We like this flag because of its representation of joy and beautiful island life.

Argentina - South America
We like this flag because of the influence it had on the flags of other South American nations: Uruguay, Honduras, and Nicaragua to name a few. Its soft blue represents a cloudy blue sky with clouds and a radiant sun in the center.

Bosnia & Herzegovina - Europe
We like this flag because of its striking design and simultaneous subtle symbolism. The points of the triangle represent the major ethnic groups: Bosniaks, Croats, and Serbs. If you look closely at the stars they come onto the flag and continue off of it. This represents the many nations of Europe and the country's place in good company.

Bhutan - Asia
This tiny country has one of the most unique flags in the world. The colors are bold and the symbology is fierce; we couldn't help but be intrigued and enamored. We like this flag because of its sheer presence in a room. The flag has a mythical presence that speaks to the mystery behind this remote nation.

Palau - Oceania
This minimalist flag perfectly reflects the sunshine culture of over 500 islands that make up the nation of Palau. We like this flag because of its punchy style and unique take on life. Honestly, it's the happy alternative to the stern minimalism of the Japanese Circle of the Sun.

South Africa - Africa
The bold colors of the South African flag are a testament to the struggle the country has overcome. Adopted in 1994, after a country-wide competition, the flag is a symbol of a new nation in Africa and the future it strives towards. We like this flag because of its punchy style and unique take on life.
